The driver asked us where we wanted to drop off. And we told him through a combination of body language and sounds that we want to try the famous Chicken Rice at Jalan Yau Tet Shin.
He nodded his head and started the engine. His hands constantly leaving the steering wheel to gesticulate wildly through the journey. Despite many awkward nods and grunts of agreement we still didn’t know what he was saying. We had had breakfast, and after a short sightseeing detour were ready for our next meal.
When we reached Jalan Yau Tet Shin, he pointed to the famous Lou Wang Chicken Rice store and frowned. Go to the one next door, that one is the one the locals go to – his hands seemed to suggest.
